ShardaCare-Healthcity Screens 100 plus People for Four Major Cancers at Free Camp in Greater Noida

Greater Noida, August 21: ShardaCare Institute of Cancer Care at ShardaCare-Healthcity conducted a free multi-cancer screening camp, where more than 100 people underwent cancer screening and consulted oncology specialists. The camp also offered counselling and guidance on early detection and further evaluation, where required. The camp covered breast, cervical, oral and prostate cancers, bringing screening services and specialist medical guidance together for the community.

The camp was organised from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and saw participation from more than 100 individuals who availed themselves of screening services and consultations with the hospital’s multidisciplinary Oncology team. The camp included PSA testing for prostate cancer and Pap smear screening for cervical cancer, along with screening support for oral and breast cancers.

The increasing burden of cancer in India makes it crucial to strengthen health awareness and cancer-control campaigns. According to the latest GLOBOCAN 2024 estimates from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), released in July 2026, India recorded an estimated 1,562,581 new cancer cases and 901,828 cancer deaths in 2024, with 3,324,140 people living with cancer diagnosed within the previous five years. Breast cancer was the most commonly diagnosed cancer, with 15.2% cases, followed by lip and oral cavity cancer with 13.2% cases, lung cancer with 7.2% cases, colorectal cancer with 5.3% cases, and cervical cancer with 5.1% cases. These figures underscore the urgent need for greater cancer awareness, prevention, early detection and screening, and timely diagnosis and treatment across India.

There are various contributors to cancer risk including old age, smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, lack of exercise, environment and genetics. Cervical cancer is closely linked to persistent  infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV), while tobacco in both smoked and smokeless forms and alcohol are major established risk factors for oral cancer. Breast cancer risk is influenced by age, reproductive and hormonal factors, obesity, family history and certain inherited genetic mutations. For prostate cancer, increasing age and family history are among the best-established risk factors.

Through initiatives such as the multi-cancer screening campShardaCare-Healthcity is working to address one of the critical gaps in cancer care — delayed diagnosis. Many cancers can remain asymptomatic or produce subtle symptoms in their early stages, leading people to seek medical attention only after the disease has progressed. The camp gave community members an opportunity to interact directly with oncology specialists, understand their individual risk factors, undergo appropriate screening and receive guidance on the next steps wherever further evaluation was required.

The initiative was supported by senior specialists across Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Radiation Oncology, who were involved in the screening, consultations and counselling provided during the camp. Their participation enabled attendees to receive guidance on cancer risk factors, appropriate screening and the need for further evaluation wherever required.

Dr. Kousar Shah, Group CEO, ShardaCare – Healthcity & Sharda Hospital, said, “Cancer care cannot begin only after a diagnosis. It has to begin with awareness, prevention and timely screening. The response to this camp, with more than 100 people benefiting from screening and specialist consultations, demonstrates the need for accessible preventive healthcare in the community. At ShardaCare, our endeavour is to make early evaluation and specialised cancer care more accessible while ensuring that patients have access to a multidisciplinary team and advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities under one roof.”

ShardaCare-Healthcity has established a comprehensive Institute of Cancer Care, bringing together expertise in medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, diagnostic and nuclear medicine, and supportive care. The hospital's cancer-care infrastructure includes advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies such as PET-CT, Varian TrueBeam LINAC and HDR Brachytherapy, alongside multidisciplinary treatment planning and personalised cancer-care pathways. The hospital continues to undertake community-focused initiatives to take cancer awareness beyond treatment, encouraging people to understand their risk, undergo appropriate screening, recognise warning signs and seek medical advice without delay.
