From India to Finland: New ‘Discover Finland’ Project helps Professionals Navigate their career journey
INDIA, August 29, 2025 : Work in Finland, part of Business Finland and the official Finnish government agency to attract global talent, today announced the India launch of Discover Finland Project, an EU-cofunded initiative designed to help experienced Indian professionals explore and guide for a potential career journey towards Finland.
The initiative comes at a time when India is among the top countries from which professionals relocate to Finland. According to the Finnish Immigration Service, more than 7,000 Indians moved to Finland for work between 2020 and 2024. Although the annual numbers have varied, these figures highlight India’s growing significance as a long-term talent partner for Finland.
Through a combination of self-paced e-learning modules and industry-led coaching sessions, Discover Finland equips mid-to-senior-level talent with the cultural, professional, and practical knowledge needed to thrive in Finland’s job market. The programme provides insights into working life, employment rights, career pathways, and relocation support, alongside sector-specific guidance for professionals in technology, engineering, healthtech, and energy.
A Unique Bridge for Indian Professionals
Unlike traditional mobility projects, Discover Finland offers an extensive preparatory journey before relocation. Professionals can build networks, understand Finnish workplace culture, and gain industry insights while still based in India.
India is one of Work in Finland’s main collaboration country and interest of developing collaboration even further is high. In recent years, Finland has seen growth in Indian professionals relocating for work. The number of first-time residence permits for remunerated activities rose from 776 in 2013 to 946 in 2024. Discover Finland helps accelerate this trend by preparing professionals ahead of arrival, making relocations smoother and career paths more sustainable.
Laura Lindeman, Senior Director and Head of the Work in Finland Unit at Business Finland, says “Indian professionals are already a valued part of Finland’s international workforce. Through Discover Finland, we are not only sharing about career opportunities but also ensuring that professionals are well-prepared for a smooth transition and long-term success. India has long been a trusted partner in talent collaboration, and with this initiative, we look forward to strengthening that relationship further.”
