Srinagar, Aug 8: The Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure following an adverse weather forecast, with authorities putting the safety of pilgrims first amid concerns over changing conditions along the pilgrimage routes.

The decision comes as weather conditions are expected to become challenging in the region, particularly across the high-altitude routes leading to the Amarnath cave shrine.

The suspension is intended to prevent pilgrims from being exposed to risks that can arise during heavy rainfall and sudden weather changes in the mountainous terrain. Slippery tracks, reduced visibility and difficult travel conditions can make the journey particularly demanding for devotees.

The annual pilgrimage draws thousands of people from different parts of the country, many of whom undertake the demanding journey on foot.
