New Delhi, July 22 : StudioBackdrops, India’s largest platform for photography, videography and audio-production gear, announced the launch of SBD Creators, a nationwide mentorship programme designed to help aspiring creators gain practical industry knowledge from established professionals. The programme formalises mentorship initiatives which StudioBackdrops has supported since 2020, bringing them together under one structured, ongoing community across fashion, wedding, cinematic and advertising photography.
As professional equipment becomes more affordable and accessible, the challenge for many new creators has shifted from acquiring gear to learning how to use it well. SBD Creators will offer guidance on equipment choices, lighting setups, creative workflows, client work and career decisions. The programme is open to creators at every stage of their journey and is not limited by follower count or online reach; photographers and videographers seeking mentorship can connect with StudioBackdrops through its platforms.
The initiative will also extend mentorship beyond India’s major cities. StudioBackdrops has worked with creators in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets for over 5 years and is now formalising this outreach through SBD Creators. Collaborators will create content in regional languages. Studiobackdrops has already initiated this by featuring collaborators in languages including Assamese, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati. And they are planning to expand further. StudioBackdrops aims to onboard at least 100 creators by the end of 2026, with representation from all 28 states.
“India’s creator economy is moving beyond the pursuit of better gear. The real gap today is know-how, understanding the right setups, making smarter equipment investments, avoiding common mistakes and learning the workflows that often take years to develop. With SBD Creators, we intend to create a space where experienced creators can pass their learning forward, openly and generously, to those who are just starting out. This is also how we see StudioBackdrops evolving: from an equipment marketplace into a meaningful enabler of India’s creator community. ,” said Archisman Misra, Founder, StudioBackdrops.
“One of the most important lessons I have learned is that authenticity lasts longer than trends,” said Gowri Nair, Creative Director, Ernakulam. “It is easy, especially at the beginning, to feel pressure to create what everyone else is making. But the work that truly connects comes from your own perspective. Consistency is not about posting every day; it is about consistently creating work you are proud to stand behind.”
The mentor line-up includes Ipshita, a Mumbai-based celebrity and advertising photographer; Satinder Pal Singh Kalra, a fashion and cinematic photographer; Nitish Bajaj, photographer; Maulik Patel, fashion and wedding photographer; Manish Linga, fashion photographer; and Kirandeep Kaur, photographer, educator and Nikon India brand ambassador. More than 25 creators are participating in the programme at launch and further we are open to having more creators join us.
Through SBD Creators, StudioBackdrops aims to strengthen India’s creator ecosystem by making industry knowledge, practical guidance and peer support more widely available to the next generation of visual storytellers.
