The Bose Files - Sach Ya Sazish: When History Falls Silent, the Search for Truth Begins

EntertainmentK Puspa14 Oct 2026

Kolkata, Oct 14: Nearly eight decades after India's independence, one of the most compelling and debated chapters of the freedom struggle continues to capture the national imagination: the disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

THE BOSE FILES — SACH YA SAZISH

Did history tell us everything? Or are there questions that remain unanswered, waiting for someone to ask them again?

The Bose Files — Sach Ya Sazish had a special screening at Nandan, Kolkata, on October 13, 2026, marking an important moment in the film’s journey to bring Netaji’s story and the questions surrounding his disappearance to audiences.

Directed by Rajesh Gupta (IITian), The Bose Files — Sach Ya Sazish is a historical feature film that revisits one of India's most enduring historical mysteries through compelling storytelling and contemporary investigation. Drawing on documents, witness accounts and competing narratives, the film explores the questions surrounding the widely reported account of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's death in a plane crash in 1945, alongside allegations of information being concealed and the role of successive governments and intelligence agencies. Through this journey, the film seeks to rekindle public interest in Netaji's extraordinary legacy and the unanswered questions that continue to surround his disappearance.

The film features acclaimed actor Yatin Karyekar as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Amit Behl as IB officer. Virendra Saxena, Akhilendra Mishra, Apoorva Arora, Akashdeep Arora, Rajeev Kumar and Kashvi Grover also play powerful character roles. Inspired by the extensively researched works of many authors, the film received censor clearance following an extensive certification process, marking a significant milestone in its journey to the big screen.

Prashant Singhania, former civil servant, serves as Creative Advisor, bringing his perspective to a project centred on historical inquiry, public institutions and the enduring significance of Netaji's legacy. According to him,

“The film is a sincere effort to bring to the fore a role model who had the vision for a free Bharat for a thousand years. Bringing him into the national narrative will be resurrecting His spirit and motivating the youth of this country to tread the nationalistic path. His planned erasure has been filled by deliberate mediocrity.”

At the heart of the story are two determined truth-seekers. A researcher, who has spent more than two decades pursuing the mystery, working largely alone in his quest for answers. Another young girl driven by an unrelenting desire to uncover the truth, represents a new generation questioning the gaps in the historical narrative. Their journeys converge in a compelling story of perseverance, courage and the search for justice.

For filmmaker Rajesh Gupta, the project marks another significant step in a filmmaking journey that includes the award-winning short films Chaddi Buddies and The Flat, which together received 12 awards, and the Hindi feature Unlock Zindagi (2022), selected for 13 international film festivals and honoured with Best Narrative Feature Film awards in Milan, Mexico and Boston.

Speaking about the film, director Rajesh Gupta says:

“This film was never just about revisiting history. It was about asking questions that generations had continued to ask and presenting a story that encouraged audiences to think, reflect and explore. Reaching this stage after overcoming every obstacle made this moment incredibly meaningful for all of us.”

With The Bose Files — Sach Ya Sazish, Real Reels Production seeks to reignite conversations about Netaji's extraordinary legacy, the complexities of historical memory and the importance of asking difficult questions. The film invites audiences, especially younger generations, to look beyond familiar narratives and engage with a chapter of India's freedom struggle that continues to provoke curiosity and debate.
