Chennai, July 21: IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation has opened registrations for the latest batch of the ‘Out of the Box Thinking’ through Mathematics course, an initiative designed to nurture creativity, critical and analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills among school students, college students, educators, working professionals, and lifelong learners.
The OOBT course has been designed and conducted by Mr. Sadagopan Rajesh, Mathematics Educator and Founder-Director of Aryabhatta Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
Who can benefit from this course?
The course is available online, completely free of cost and is open to everyone including students, parents and working professionals. Through this initiative, IITM Pravartakaims to benefit a large number of students, along with college students, researchers, educators, and working professionals across India.
The last date to apply for the next batch is 6th August 2026. The course is scheduled to commence on 7th August 2026. Interested learner can register and obtain further information on the course and eligibility criterial for each level from - https://iitmpravartak.org.in/
Calling upon students from all over India to apply for this course, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said,
“The ‘Out of the Box Thinking’ through mathematics is very important in solving real-world problems through an innovative approach. Applying out-of-the-box thinking in mathematics fosters creativity and encourages thinking beyond standard formulae and methods, leading to novel approaches and unique solutions.”
Further, Prof. V. Kamakoti added,
“Out-of-the-box thinking develops critical thinking skills as individuals learn to question assumptions, explore alternatives, and evaluate solutions from different perspectives. Many technological and scientific advancements are the result of innovative mathematical thinking. Encouraging out-of-the-box thinking can lead to breakthroughs and discoveries in fields ranging from engineering to medical sciences. Empowering young minds to think differently is crucial for our country's development and prosperity.”
The OOBT program consists of four progressive levels, with each level spanning 10 weeks and including periodic assignments and guided solutions. The course is offered by IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, a Section 8 company of IIT Madras, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
Learners will also have the option to appear for an in-person proctored examination to be conducted at selected centres across India. Participants can register for the examination by paying a nominal fee. Based on their performance, learners will receive a Grade Certificate issued by IIT Madras Pravartak. Details regarding the examination schedule and centres will be announced separately.
Speaking about the initiative, Shri Sadagopan Rajesh, OOBT Course Instructor, said,
“The Out of the Box Thinking (OOBT) through Mathematics course has been designed to help learners develop logical reasoning, creativity, and confidence in solving problems through multiple approaches. Mathematics is not just about finding the right answer, it is about exploring different ways of thinking and understanding concepts deeply. Through this free initiative, we hope to make quality mathematical learning accessible to every learner and inspire students across the country to think beyond conventional methods.”
How can schools partner with IITM Pravartak?
IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation continues to strengthen its collaboration with schools across India by encouraging institutions to nominate teachers as Institute Coordinators for the OOBT program.
To facilitate outreach and coordination with schools across the country, IITM PravartakTechnologies Foundation has partnered with BodhBridge Education .
The Institute Coordinator acts as the vital bridge between IITM Pravartak and the school, ensuring smooth communication, encouraging student participation, coordinating registrations, and providing continuous support throughout the learning journey.
Having a dedicated SPOC significantly improves student engagement, enables better coordination, simplifies communication with parents and students, and helps achieve higher participation and course completion rates.
Any teacher can register as a School Coordinator with the approval of their Principal, Headmaster, or Headmistress.
IITM Pravartak also plans to recognize and appreciate schools and School Coordinators who actively contribute towards expanding the reach and impact of the initiative.
