"US technology stocks remain a major starting point for Indian investors exploring international markets. However, what we are observing on Vested is a gradual expansion of interest beyond familiar technology companies towards other sectors and investment products.
Technology accounts for nearly 50% of the total traded value and 45% of stock trades on Vested, while consumer cyclical and communication services companies together contribute another 24% of traded value. This indicates that technology and related growth sectors continue to dominate investor activity. At the same time, financial services, industrials, healthcare and other sectors are also seeing participation.
One encouraging development is the growing adoption of ETFs. The number of ETF trades on Vested increased by more than 200% in 2025. Importantly, this interest is not restricted to technology-focused funds. We are seeing increased activity in commodity-linked ETFs, particularly gold and copper. In 2026 year-to-date, trading value across metals ETFs increased by approximately 116% compared with 2025, while the number of trades rose by 174%. Copper ETF CPER, for instance, has seen its investor base grow approximately fourfold and its trade count increase sixfold.
These trends suggest that investors are beginning to explore different asset classes alongside traditional US equity investments. However, owning multiple stocks or ETFs does not automatically translate into diversification, especially if the underlying holdings are concentrated in similar sectors.
The broader shift we are observing is from investing primarily in familiar global companies towards exploring a wider range of international investment opportunities. While technology and AI-related stocks continue to attract significant attention, meaningful diversification ultimately depends on how investors spread their exposure across sectors, asset classes and geographies, rather than simply increasing the number of investments in their portfolios."
